Mid 2025 - PC Spec Refresh

In an effort to always provide the best possible computers at the best pricing we are constantly reviewing our offerings.

As we are approaching half way through 2025 we thought it time for a bit of a refresh.

Our Extreme and Trader Pro PC computers have seen the biggest changes and now both start with the faster Intel Core Ultra 5 chips as their default options.

We’ve also added in a range of more powerful nVidia graphics card options (the 5000 series are here!).

Finally we have culled some of the processor options on some of our machines and virtually removed all but the top two AMD chips.

New Default Processors for The Extreme PC.

The Extreme PC now uses the brand new Intel Core Ultra 5 225F chip as it’s default option, this replaces the 14th generation i5 14600Kf and offers around a 5% raw speed boost over it.

The more powerful Core Ultra 5, 7, and 9 chips are also available at a significantly lower upgrade price.

This has also meant a switch to the latest Intel Z890 motherboard series which are the premium options for Intel Core Ultra chips.

We have removed the 14th generation Intel chips from this PC. When putting together DDR5 based systems the performance levels and pricing of the newer Core Ultra chips now makes the 14th generation far less competitive.

We’ve also removed all but the top two AMD 9000 series chips, the rest of them just don’t price up well against the Intel’s, you get faster performance out of the Intel’s in virtually all ‘real world’ tasks at a better price point.

Only the top two AMD’s offer any advantage and that is in multi-threaded workloads which most software can’t even utilise.

Trader Pro PC CPU Upgrades

In a similar vein, we have also dropped the 14th generation Intel chips from the Trader Pro, they no longer make sense when the Core Ultras are competitively priced and faster.

The main difference is we start off with the faster Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF, this is 10% faster than the i5 it replaces in terms of raw speed, and it’s around 12% better in multi-threaded workloads, all for the same base price.

Ultra & Trader PC Processors

For both these machines we have stuck with the 14th generation Intel processors, this is due to us still being able to build up DDR4 systems which helps us achieve a lower price point and solid performance levels.

DDR4 RAM is technically slower than DDR5, but it makes little if any real world difference, these machines are still overkill for most users and offer fantastic performance levels for a really good price.

New Graphics Cards

Our whole ethos since starting this company back in 2008 was that you don’t need to spend ridiculous money to get a high performing multi-screen computer system.

That still 100% holds true.

Our use of the Intel Arc cards provide strong and stable multi screen PC performance, and we can configure graphics setups for up to 10 screens using them.

Some customers do have more demanding graphical requirements though, whether this is to power bigger and higher resolution screens, to run some on machine AI models, or even for gaming.

We introduced the nVidia RTX 4060 cards as options towards the middle of 2024 and they have been pretty popular. These are still available on the Ultra PC and have now been added to the Trader PC as options.

The start of 2025 saw the release of the 5000 series cards from nVidia. New releases always cause a scramble for cards as there is never enough stock and pricing is sky high.

Things have settled down now on that front though and we are now able to reliably secure stock of many 5000 series cards.

Based on that and on the premise of wanting to offer the best solutions to our customers we have added the 5060, 5070 and even the 5080 cards as options on the Extreme and Trader Pro PC’s.

To be honest, anything above the 5060’s are massively overkill for just running screens, even those cards can power Full HD, QHD, or 4K screens without any drama what so ever.

The reason we are offering the RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 cards is for AI.

AI workloads that run locally on your PC demand a lot of graphics resources to power them. The 5070 and the 5080’s offer a lot more AI power than the Intel Arc cards, so if you want to run some AI workloads on your PC or think you may want to in the future then the nVidia 5000 series cards are perfectly suited to that.
